to New York

My name is Zafira, 33 years old, born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia. During my Hajj, I discovered an abaya so beautiful and graceful that wearing it felt like wearing a piece of serenity.

I never imagined that this abaya would become the beginning of something much bigger. Fellow pilgrims, friends, and family began asking about it, many even asking me to bring one home for them. What started as a simple act of sharing slowly became a calling.

“Modesty should never limit a woman’s sense of style. An abaya can be bold, make you feel beautiful, and make you feel truly elegant.”

When I returned to Indonesia, the response was overwhelming. That was when I realized this was more than fashion. It was about creating something that made women feel beautiful, confident, and at peace in what they wear.

And so, Zafira Abaya was born.

Zafira Abaya drew inspiration from Janah Garden, a vision of paradise expressed through the beauty, serenity, and timeless elegance. This concept became the heart of the collection, shaping its silhouettes, colors, intricate details, and delicate elements.

Every design began with detailed sketches, carefully developed through layers of ideas, refinement, and consideration. From selecting the fabrics and perfecting each silhouette to the intricate process of cutting, sewing, and finishing, every step was approached with precision and intention.

The making of Janah Garden was a journey of transforming imagination into something tangible. Each piece carries the dedication of the hands behind it, brought together to embody the essence of Zafira Abaya, modesty, elegance, and the beauty.

From the first vision to the final stitch, Janah Garden was created with one purpose, to bring a piece of that vision to the world, and ultimately, to the runway in New York.

From the first sketch and fabric selection to cutting, sewing, embellishing, and finishing, every step was handled with patience, precision, and care.

Their hands may never be seen on the runway, but their dedication is woven into every piece that was. Every stitch, every detail, and every careful adjustment carries a part of their hard work. This collection is not only a reflection of our vision, but also a tribute to the people who helped bring it all the way to New York.

What began with a love for abayas slowly grew into a dream to bring Indonesian modest fashion to the world.

But the road to New York was far from easy.

The journey across the world was long and exhausting, and even our flight faced unexpected challenges due to volcanic ash from Mount Krakatau.

Yet, every obstacle only strengthened our determination. It reminded us that when God has written a path for us, no detour is ever without a reason. What is meant for us will always find its way to us.

From Jakarta to New York, this journey became more than reaching a runway. It became a quiet lesson in faith, patience, and trust, knowing that every step, every delay, and every unexpected turn was part of a greater plan.

And finally, we arrived.

The minutes before the show felt almost like a dream. Behind the curtains, everything was moving at once. The abayas were being prepared, the final touches were carefully made, and the models slowly stepped into each look. Amid the soft chaos of backstage, we watched our collection take its final form. There was excitement, a little nervousness, and a quiet moment of disbelief. Soon, the lights would come on, the music would begin, and what once existed only in our imagination would finally walk into the world.

There were moments we wished we could hold onto a little longer. So we captured them, frame by frame, the laughter, the embraces, the quiet smiles, and all the little moments in between. Looking back at these photographs, we do not simply see a day in New York. We see a collection of memories that remind us of how it felt to finally be there, after everything we had dreamed, hoped, and prayed for.
