The Luxury Abaya
Fabric & Care Guide

A quiet study of the fabrics behind a Zafira piece — and the small rituals that preserve their drape, sheen, and craftsmanship for years to come.

A luxury abaya is, above all, a study in material. Silhouette, embroidery, and beadwork all rest on the quiet foundation of the cloth beneath — its weight, its fall, its willingness to hold shape or surrender to movement.

The following is a considered guide to the fabrics we return to at Zafira, and the small rituals we recommend to preserve them. Care, like craftsmanship, is a slow discipline.

Chapter I

The Fabrics

01

Premium Nida The Signature

A dense, matte-finish weave prized for its structured drape and quiet opacity. Nida holds silhouette without stiffness, allowing beadwork and embroidery to sit precisely as intended. It resists creasing on long journeys, making it a cornerstone of the Zafira wardrobe.

Care

Cool iron on the reverse. Dry clean beaded pieces; gentle hand wash for unembellished nida in cool water with a pH-neutral detergent.

02

Silk Crepe The Whisper

Woven from finely twisted yarns, silk crepe carries a soft matte lustre and a fluid, weighted fall. It moves in slow, sculptural folds — a fabric of restraint, chosen for pieces where movement is the ornament.

Care

Dry clean only. Store folded with acid-free tissue between layers, away from direct light to preserve its natural sheen.

03

Silk Chiffon The Veil

A translucent, feather-weight silk with an airy hand. Reserved for khimars and layered detailing where light is meant to pass through. Its delicacy is intentional — a study in restraint and grace.

Care

Hand wash cold with mild silk detergent or dry clean. Lay flat to dry; never wring. Steam on the lowest setting from a distance.

04

Italian Wool Crepe The Architect

A cool-weather refinement — lightweight yet substantive, with a subtle grain and impeccable memory. Ideal for atelier pieces requiring precise tailoring and enduring shape season after season.

Care

Dry clean exclusively. Rest on a padded hanger between wears and brush gently with a soft garment brush to lift the nap.

Chapter II

Five Care Rituals

I

Rest between wears

Allow each piece 24 to 48 hours on a padded hanger to release wrinkles and settle back into its natural drape.

II

Steam, don't press

Handheld steaming preserves fibre integrity. Reserve the iron for reverse-side touch-ups on unembellished panels only.

III

Store in breath

Use unbleached cotton garment bags — never plastic. Beaded and embroidered pieces are folded flat with acid-free tissue.

IV

Shield from light

Direct sunlight and prolonged fluorescent exposure will dull silks and shift dye tones. Store in cool, shaded interiors.

V

Entrust the specialist

Beadwork, embroidery, and atelier pieces are entrusted to a couture dry cleaner familiar with hand-finished garments.
